Od dobrego już czasu każda nowa płyta Buddy’ego Guy’a jest wydarzeniem. Każda jest też zasadniczo inna od poprzedniej. Sięgnę tylko wstecz do trzech ostatnich, które ukazały się już w tym wieku. Wydana w 2001 r. „Sweet Tea” była hołdem złożonym współczesnym twórcom z Delty i zawierała kompozycje Juniora Kimbrougha, T – Model Forda, Roberta Cage’a i Cedella Davisa. Wydana dwa lata później „Blues Singer” prezentowała akustyczne oblicze Buddy’ego. Rok później ukazał się podwójny album „Live At Legends” w którym Guy - grając na deskach swego klubu dla uwielbiającej go widowni - pokazał swe wspaniale, koncertowe oblicze. Już te trzy tytuły pokazują Buddy’ego Guy’a jako artystę niezwykle wszechstronnego i niezmiennie kreatywnego.

Najnowsza płyta doskonale wpisuje się w ten szereg zdarzeń. W jakimś sensie jest kwintesencją trzech poprzednich. Tą płytą Buddy pokazuje, że pozycja jaką zajął na szczycie bluesowej hierarchii, przynależy mu się jak najbardziej. Fakt zaproszenia do udziału w jej realizacji plejady tak zacnych nazwisk, jak: Tracy Chapman; Anthony Hamilton; Keb' Mo'; Mayer, Dr. John; Ivan Neville; Robert Randolph; Keith Richards i Carlos Santana mógłby być odebrany jako sposób na zainteresowanie płytą szerszego odbiorcy niż bluesowego. O ile efekt ten zostanie osiągnięty – chwała Budy’emu za to.

W żadnym jednak wypadku udział „specjalnych gości” nie wymusił na Guy’u jakichkolwiek artystycznych ustępstw. Mało tego, wszyscy oni wspaniale wpasowali się w magię muzyki Buddy’ego. To kolejna płyta, na której Buddy wykonuje prawie wyłącznie obce kompozycje. Ich autorami są klasycy rhythm’n’bluesa i soul music: Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Wilson Pickett i Eddie Floyd. Jedynym własnym utworem jest trzecia piosenka na krążku What Kind of Woman Is This. Wyboru tematów dokonano pieczołowicie, bo płyty słucha się „jednym ciągiem”. Zaczyna się od nostalgicznego Now You’re Gone Curtisa Mayfielda z łkającą gitarą, uduchowionym chórkiem i ślizgającym się po wysokich rejestrach głosem Guy’a. Akcja nabiera tempa w następnym, dynamicznym utworze Ninety Nine And One Half Eddiego Floyda, Steve’a Croppera i Wilsona Picketta, gdzie Buddy pokazuje, że w soulowej estetyce jest równie przekonywujący, co jeszcze bardziej akcentuje w wykonanej z pomocą Johna Mayera "pościelówie” I've Got Dreams to Remember Otisa Reddinga a także, kilka utworów dalej, w On A Saturday Night (także Floyda i Croopera).

Jest na płycie jeszcze kilka innych utworów z gościnnym udziałem różnych znakomitości. I tak, w utrzymanym w klimacie bliskim reggae I Put a Spell On You Screamin' Jay’a Hawkinsa słyszymy gitarę Carlosa Santany. W Lay Lady Lay mamy lap steel guitar Roberta Randolpha, gitarę Keb’Mo i gwiazdę współczesnej Black Music Anthony’ego Hamiltona. Wielki przebój Boba Dylana uzyskał tu formę żarliwej pieśni gospel. No i dwa absolutne brylanty w tym zestawie. Pierwszy to uduchowiony The Price You Gotta Pay Keb’a Mo’ z Keithem Richardsem i Keb’em Mo’ na gitarach oraz Ivanem Nevillem na klawiszach, co samo w sobie nie musi być specjalną atrakcją, ale chórki w ich wydaniu – tak! Drugi, mój absolutny faworyt na tym krążku, Ain't No Sunshine Billa Withersa fantastycznie zaśpiewany przez Buddy’ego w duecie z Tracy Chapman. Wydawać by się mogło, że już naprawdę niewiele można z tego popularnego tematu wycisnąć, a ten duet stworzył kolejne wielkie dzieło.

„Bring ’Em In” to dla mnie jedna z najważniejszych płyt minionego roku, a zarazem kolejna udana płyta dobiegającego siedemdziesiątki (30 lipca) Artysty, który w najmniejszym stopniu nie myśli aby zacząć odcinać kupony od swej sławy i pozycji.
